Are we missing something?
Poker is alive and well in Oregon with most of the rooms
being in Portland or surrounding areas. You’ll find a lot of
members only poker rooms here which can easily be joined on the
day to play. You pay a membership fee and this is how the room
makes money.
The game of choice in Oregon is still no limit Texas holdem,
much like the rest of the United States. On top of this you can
come across some rooms that offer Omaha, Stud, and Pineapple and
limit holdem. But these are certainly in the minority now. As is
tournament play, because the poker rooms in Oregon just don’t
make enough money off tournaments so you’re most likely to find
that a lot of the tournaments that rooms advertise won’t run.
Play in Oregon is going to be quite tough and will be of a
higher standard than you find in gaming meccas such as Las Vegas
or Atlantic City. Most of those still playing have developed
their skills and are now in the upper middle class of poker.
